That may be a question that you’ve never asked yourself before.
What is it about him that draws people? Is it that he offers eternal life? Is it because he offers healing? Is it because he can calm storms, or because he can provide financially?
No. While these may motivate some people to come to Jesus it is not why people give their lives to follow him. Nearly every Apostle and many church fathers were martyred not because Jesus offered financial provision or healing, or even the promise of heaven.
No, they died for Jesus because he is beautiful. He is compelling. He is worthy. He is valuable. To use a church word, he is glorious. Their eyes glimpsed the glory of God and were compelled to give everything in response. This is what draws us to Jesus and keeps us abiding.
This is at the heart of the Christian life, and at the heart of the church as the bride of Christ. We gaze upon Jesus as we would look at the person we are about to marry. This must be the heart of everything we do. To discover, to rediscover, to experience the surpassing worth of Jesus.
He is our ultimate goal, the central desire of our lives. The only natural response is worship.
This is why our mission at Victor Haven Ministries is “To discover the beauty of Jesus and worship him.”
