Residency Update
Recently we reached out asking for prayer towards John's assessment in readiness for his Pastoral Residency with Downtown Hope (DH).
Downtown Hope was represented by their Lead Pastor, David, the Pastor of Cultivation, Joey, and a member of the elder board, Craig. They asked a series of questions to assess John's theological understanding, heart health, and ministry experience. Everyone was happy to hear that John's overall preparedness for launching is in a good place, so the goal of the residency will really focus on ways to structure church operations and roles. Essentially, John will be treated like a team/staff member and will learn from exposure with the ability to grow with everyone in leadership.
One of the ways John will engage with the Downtown Hope community is by teaching/preaching in their Sunday rotation. We expect that he will be involved in the next sermon series on the book of Ephesians. We will continue to share residency updates!
Principal Testimony
We've shared in the past that John participates in a local pastor's prayer group every Wednesday morning. The week the group planned to meet in Victor Haven, John extended an invitation to the new Principal, Booberg, and a teacher from Georgetown East Elementary (our neighborhood school).
Booberg shared some practical concerns about the potential of loosing some funding as the beginning of the school year approaches. Those present to hear Booberg's concerns quickly offered to pray for her as well as both their time and resources to help her work toward solutions to her problem.
This week, Principal Booberg called John to report that she received all of her funding and directly attributes that to the prayers of the group. VHM is grateful that we are cultivating relationships with our neighborhood and look forward to how this will allow residents to encounter Jesus for themselves.
