Newest Family Addition

Writer's picture: Chelsea BarzalChelsea Barzal

Aaaaaaand we're back! We've been away preparing for and enjoying time with the newest addition to our family (you can see a glimpse of him in the video update below!). Thank you for your continued support and prayer, we are grateful to see what God is doing here.

Family and Home Life

Ezra was born on January 8th at 10lbs 3oz. He is growing like crazy, well above the normal statistics for his age. We look forward to getting sleep at some point in the future. Everyone is adjusting pretty well, including Lydia—she is enjoying caring for her little brother with kisses and aggressively putting a pacifier in his mouth.

Partnership with Georgetown East Elementary

Another local pastor and I are meeting weekly with four fourth graders during school hours. Then the program organizes 7 field trips over the school year that we go on with the kids. The goal of this partnership is to build relationships in the community, and we've had the chance to connect with two of the four kids' families in our neighborhood!

Church Planting Residency

I preached for the second time this past week at Downtown Hope. You can watch that here.

Church residency at Downtown Hope has taken some time to get going. Leadership at DH has found a rhythm to begin having meetings to establish what that will look like and how we will proceed. We are hoping that we have clear guidance and structure within the next month.

The small group that we host at home has become a place where I am actively training people in how to hear God’s voice and how to pray for the sick. This may become a class that I teach at DH. I'll be providing a curriculum outline to the lead pastor for approval this week.

VHM Church Plant

We have finalized several documents relating to the structure of the church. We look forward to sharing the specifics of that in the upcoming weeks!

We are hoping to start meeting regularly for services. Hopefully, I will have a solid date next month after solidifying more information about the pastoral residency.

Seminary

Last semester I scaled back the number of credit hours taken to be present with our growing family and give more attention to all the priorities above. This has proven to be a good decision as this semester has been particularly challenging between lack of sleep and the sheer quantity of work required. Classes are going well and I am happy with the rigor of the program.

Prayer Requests

  • More sleep!

  • Connecting with others to raise financial support

  • Wisdom for the church plant and staying in-step with God through the process
